On Sunday we explored Durango until huge hail cut the exploration short. Trevor looked up at said "What the HAIL!" Which was all fun and games until the kids kept saying it but it didn't sound like Hail at all and we kept getting looks in the Mcdonald's toy land. We also went swimming. On Monday we headed into New Mexico to explore the Aztec Ruins. Which I found out aren't Aztec at all but ancient Pueblo Indians-same as Mesa Verde. Wednesday we hung out. I read a book. We explored some more Durango. Thursday we went to Mesa Verde. Which was AMAZING. It's been one of my favorite places so far. We explored all three ruins.
This first ruin we all went too. Some serious climbing with Sam on my back. This one is Cliff Palace.
Isn't that a cute smooch? I'll post some more Mesa Verde pictures tomorrow.

I'm missing the day we went to Grand Canyon. It's on Trevor's camera. The kids loved it. It made me nervous. It was also 56 degrees. After Flagstaff we traveled from there to Durango. It should have taken us 6 hours. We did it in a new land speed record of 13 1/2 hours. Of course, there was 1 time change and we stopped at a couple places along the way.
Here are the happy travelers. My kids really overall are amazing travelers. We just keep throwing food at them every once in a while.
This is Crater National Monument. Huge crater. That square in the middle is I think the size of a football field. You can have 20 football games at one time in the bottom.
This is a Sand Mountain (???) from the Petrified Forest. It interested me much more than the petrified wood. It really literally is made out of sand. I got out to touch (The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it dad). I'm not sure I was supposed too. But you could just pick it up and dig right into the side with your hand I have no clue what is keeping these sand hills up but good intentions...

Well, it's Thursday the 6th I believe. I'm not very consistent with this, am I? After St George, We drove down to Flagstaff so we could go to Grand Canyon. I had on my shorts and flipflops ready for that South West heat. I'll show you the pictures of the drive.
Wasn't that absolutely insane? It was practically a blizzard. Or at least it felt like one. I guess it was "unseasonable cold"
This last one was taken like 20 minutes later. We dropped back down in elevation and it completely opened up into the typical southwestern rocks.

Trevor's pictures of the Cinder Cone volcano
They probably spent an hour up there. Trevor had a bible time and the kids drew pictures in their art book. By the way some of you should be expecting post cards in the next week of so from Tsega. Which he did all by himself (as opposed to me telling him to write a post card). Awesome kid. So atleast you will get 1 out of 9 postcards even if the rest of us suck at writing letters.

Today we hiked on Cinder Cone outside snow Canyon. Here was our challenge. Trevor, Caleb, Tsega, and Maggie climbed straight up the side. The rest of us took the path around it.

Abby trudging ahead. This is about as far as we got- 3/4 of the way. And then the path became all volcanic rock. Not so fun with a 2 year old
I couldn't handle the feathered 80's look that my hair kept doing on this vacation. So it all came off again! Tommorow we are packing up and leaving St. George and heading to Flagstaff to see the Grand Canyon. So it might be a couple of days before I blog again. Love ya all!

Again, I got all the pictures backward. This is at the very end of our hike to the falls. The kids wanted to ride horses. This is as close as they got considering that they were $40 per hour per person.
